Thelast (4th) semesterofstudy isdedicatedtothepreparation of the Master Thesis. EachstudentsubmitsaMaster Thesis Proposal form, includingtitle, supervisor and a brief outline of the contents and schedule. TheCoordinatingCommittee (CC)examinesandacceptstheproposal, assigns the supervisor and designates the examination committee of three members – professors, including the supervisor. Thesupervisorhastobe the instructor of at least one of the courses in the curriculum. The other two members of the examination committee are chosen so that at least two of the collaborating Departments are represented in it.
TheMaster Thesis should have a research orientation and an innovative topic. The Master Thesis is written in Greek. AcompletedMaster Thesis has to be orally presented and defended in front of the examination committee in order to be approved and accepted.
Each student has to prepare a Master Thesis individually. Collaboration of more than one student on a single thesis topic requires a documented request filed by the supervisor and the consent of the Program Committee. The thesis topic should be specific, research-oriented and innovative. The text of a completed thesis should extend to 25,000 words approximately and should be accompanied by a brief presentation in digital form. In case of a thesis that includes the development of original audiovisual content or digital application, the text may be limited to 8,000 words approximately. Thepreparationofthethesisshouldcloselyfollowtheschedule agreed between the student and the supervisor.
Master theses should be turned in within the announced deadlines. Extension of the deadline is granted only in exceptional cases, such as health problems (see Article 2, par. 2.b). The text of the thesis is turned in into four (4) bound hard copies and one (1) digital copy. Type setting should use A4 page dimensions and 1.5 line spacing. Th cover page should state the Master Program title and collaborating Departments and Universities, the full names of the student and the supervisor, the thesis title and the academic year (please see the template available online). Thethesisshouldincludeanextendedabstractof 300-400 words approximately, inGreek and in English, as well as 4-6 keywords given in both languages.
Master theses are submitted to the Program Secretariat with the written consent of the supervisor, in order to be presented and orally defended in public by the student in front of the examination committee. The place and time of the presentation is announced in time by the Program Secretariat.
Following the presentation and defense of a thesis, the examination committee evaluates and grades the thesis using the relevant grading form. The form is signed by all three members and filed with the Program Secretariat care of the supervisor.
The committee may request corrections or revision of the thesis or may altogether reject the thesis. In the former case, the revised thesis is re-submitted to the same examination committee for evaluation, within the set deadline. In the latter case, instead of the Master Degree the student receives a certificate of attendance of the study program.
The student has to clearly state all sources used in the preparation of the Master Thesis or any other report or deliverable submitted to meet requirements of the study program. Verbatim quotations should be placed in quotes and the source should be cited. Such excerpts should not cumulatively exceed 20% of the total thesis text. In all cases mentioned above, following a documented request by the CC, the Program Committee may decide to expel the student from this program.
Approved, accepted and graded Master Theses have to be uploaded to the website of the Master Program. Furthermore, according to the relevant UoA regulation, they have to be uploaded in full text to the “PERGAMOS” UoA digital repository.
